Rimmel Stay Matte and Divergent

Oh hey, it's Sally!

Remember me? Oops so it's been a while since I posted because I've just been going to school and what not so nothing really interesting had been happening.

A few weeks ago, I had to make a new purchase of powder because my Clinique Super-balanced Powder ran out and then when I went off to buy a new one, turns out it's been discontinued. *Insert depressing noise* So, I just went to the local pharmacy and bought the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Peach Glow. Wow this stuff is good!
Also, it's much cheaper than my Clinique powder which I also loved but really, I think they're about the same so I'm now happy that I found this. The only downside to it is I don't like the packaging, I wish it had a mirror in it and sometimes, I find the cover a bit hard to get off. Also it doesn't look very nice which is why I guess I never bought it before.

I finished reading The Host by Stephanie Meyer a while ago and boy that book was good. Now, I've just started reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. Apparently, I was told if I'm a fan of the Hunger Game series, I should be a fan of this so I bought it on my Kindle. Unfortunately, I'm too early in the book to comment how I feel about it and give a proper review but I will when I've finished reading it. So far it has drawn me in well and I'm glad it's a trilogy so I have two more books to read before I have to go hunting for another book.

That's all I've really got to say for today. A short sweet post! Hope you enjoyed reading it! For those of you who just started school, good luck! Talk to you later,

Sally xx

Top 3 College Must-Haves!

Hi all,
If you might not know, I'm a freshman in college! I start University here in Hong Kong, on the first Monday of September, and I'm so excited. I'm a Faculty Of Arts student, and will be taking Spanish, Translation, Mandarin, English, Sport and Religion.
As I'm typing this, I'm sitting amongst my mess of a room. I'm officially packing up my things and moving into the resident halls first thing tomorrow! I realised that there's a lot of things a newbie would forget to bring, or not realise that it's a necessity! Thankfully, I met a group of amazing Year 2 friends at the orientation camp I went to last week (when I had Sally post for me!) and we've become great friends. They gave me some tips and tricks so I thought I'd share it with you all here!

1. A Day Planner

Paperblanks Day Planner, in the Filigree Floral Ebony design

A day planner is incredibly important, I organise my school work, social life, crucial university dates and deadlines as well as social media plans (e.g Youtube video ideas, Hello Style Cosmo shows) on this! Also, it's great because you can have a spread of a week over two pages, and you can plan your week accordingly! It also has a phone book, an empty schedule table, pages of blank notes, monthly calenders and  two ribbons to mark your day!
This is the day planner that I have, but unfortunately it's not my own photo! It's incredibly cute, but it also comes in a range of different designs and sizes to suit your daily life. You can pick another design that you think best defines your personality, and adds an oomph to your boring everyday schoolbooks!

2. A Shower Caddy

Vera Bradley Shower Caddy

Whether you're sharing a bathroom between two rooms (4 girls) like I am, or trooping to shower stalls shared by your entire floor of girls, everyone definitely needs to bring their own products into the shower! If you haven't realised, I'm a massive product junkie, so it would just be stupid to walk in with my arms full of products. One great thing about shower caddies is that it adds a pop of colour to your drab dorm room, and it's also waterproof on the inside, in case any of your products spill over.

3. Decorations

Many dorm rooms will not allow nails hammered in for photo frames, artworks or whatever medal you want hung up. But, with stark white walls and a plain mattress on a plain wooden bed, it's hard to not cry when you see that plain room. So, to spice it up, develop some photos to stick everywhere! They'll remind you of all your friends from back home or in high school, and also there's a lot of pretty photos on Tumblr or on Pinterest! It's like your original wallpaper!
Also, fairy lights can brighten any boring room, and make it super cute and cozy. I'm actually a little bit afraid of the dark, so fairy lights are perfect because the soft lights won't keep your roomie up at night, but bright enough for you to fall asleep to.

All this dorm room talk has me excited to get back to packing! I'm super excited to meet my room mate tomorrow, and to decorate my 1-year "house" with her!

King Kong and Carriage Rides

Hey there, it's Sally!
Oops, I'm a little late posting but I have an excuse! I went and saw King Kong the Musical on Saturday with some of my friends from Sydney and thought I'd do a short review about it.

First of all, I wasn't expecting very much. I didn't know anything about King Kong except that he was a massive gorilla that is on a building. When the show started, it seemed like any other musical until the stage effects started, and oh my gosh they are impressive! The stage rocked and bits would go down and other bits would go up and the lighting and visual effects were so amazing! Apparently, King Kong had been planned out for five years and rehearsed for six months. During the interval, I spent the whole time trying to figure out how things worked. King Kong itself was a 1.1 tonne puppet. It had 10 men dressed in black on stage moving it around and 3 people off stage controlling its face and voice. Even though you were aware it was a puppet, it didn't draw away from the experience and you barley noticed them. King Kong's face was so real I couldn't believe it. The songs were okay.. I thought nothing that really stuck in my head afterwards but the singers were very talented. I thought Esther Hannaford who played the girl King Kong fall's in love with had a lovely voice and sounded very much like Celine Dion. The dancing was amazing, maybe I'm being biased because my ex Jazz teacher was in the show. There was one part where Kong came right to the edge of the stage and was Ann Darrow and it looked like he was about the grab one of the audience members any second! Overall, I was very buzzed from the performance. If you get the chance, I would highly recommend it. Especially for people 14+.

The next day, we went on a horse carriage ride for half an hour which was good fun. Unfortunately, it started raining and was very windy but we could lift the sides up (sort of like a convertible) so we were sheltered from the rain. We waved to lots of people on the street while we were on the carriage and lots of people waved back which was nice. (Definitely not sour.) Our horses names were Bobby and Chief and they were both boys. They were very cute!

Next, we payed a visit to Luna park but it looked a bit like it was about to fall apart so we didn't go in haha!
Finally, we had a mini buffet at a restaurant called Rococo's. We could choose 10 things on the menu for $50 which is quite good split between 4 people! We were all very full after eating and it was delicious!

All in all, I had a very fun weekend!
Talk to you later,
Sally xx

Garnier Dark Spot Corrector Review

As you're reading this, I'm away at university orientation camp! Having been to international schools all my life, I was expecting wilderness and tents and living on bare necessities. That was all the camps I've ever been to, and I've gotten a lot of survival skills like the Heat Escape Lessening Posture (HELP) position when you fall into the sea, or first aid, or CPR, or making a campfire.
But it turns out local Asian camp is totally mild. Like, living indoors with showers and toilets. On the to-bring list they told us to bring phone chargers.... This feels more like a luxurious, "outdoor" getaway!
But thanks Sal for posting this for me whilst I'm away!

If you saw my Pupa Silk Touch Foundation Review, then you would know that I have horrible acne scarring. I don't even know how it started, but maybe it was the stress of exams, or not having time to do weekly facials since I was slaving away for school.

Just a little background information, acne scarring is the result of excess melanin production, the dark pigment that makes you tan. Some people are born with high melanin production in their skin cells, resulting in a darker natural skin tone. But, as a typical Asian, I have fairly light skin, so any acne scarring is like, a brown spot on a white canvas.
Awkward.
As a reference, I have around NC15-NC20 ish skin tone, depending on the season.

I always look for high coverage foundations, but the hot and sticky summer heat makes it really annoying to be wearing thicker foundations, especially since I have normal to oily skin. So, since seeing this at the local drugstore, I decided to give this product a go!

*Unfortunately, the photo is not my own, I've been so busy, and it's so hard to take good quality photos at night!

It claims to fade discolouration, from dark spots, age spots and blemish marks. Which is absolutely perfect, its exactly what I need faded! It is made up of pure Vitamin C, which encourages faster skin turnover, and  allow you to lighten your discolouration. In less sugar-coated words, it makes your skin cells shed faster, like a friggin snake. But don't worry, it's nothing you can actually see.....
I made it sound really gross, but that's the technicality behind it.

It has a typical fresh moisturiser scent, just like every other Garnier product. I use it as a daily moisturiser, even though it's a little thick, but nothing my skin can't handle. I like to know that my moisturiser is lightening my discolouration whilst I've got makeup on. Since it's only my 5th day using this product, I can't exactly say if it really lightens my discolouration, but my skin definitely looks brighter and more luminous. I'm not sure about it in the long run, but I will keep you updated! At HKD$129, it's definitely worth trying, if it means I can use less foundation, or hopefully even go without it someday! Plus, all those high end, high coverage foundations and concealers tend to add up, cost-wise, so technically skin care products that claim to improve your skin tone will be more worth it!
I'll definitely keep you all updated on how it turns out! I really don't want to take a before and after photo of my skin, it's not like I want to be reminded of how shitty my skin is (was? hopefully?!).

Haha , lots of love, from Julsie! xox

Chanel Glossimer Lip Gloss Review in Rose Dilemma 144

Hi all,

So I've been obsessed with the show 2 Broke Girls (promo trailer here) and Caroline mentioned her love for Chanel lipglosses. It hit me that I've never owned a super high end lipgloss, I've had MAC, Benefit and a ton of drugstore ones. So of course, despite being a broke college girl, I had to get myself one. Just to try and justify it, its not like I got a Chanel lipgloss cos my current favourite TV show mentioned it (they used the Rouge Allure series, ha!) but my excuse was, since I'm starting a new university, new classes, and meeting new people, I might as well invest in a good lip gloss, something that I can just grab and go, and that I'll feel super confident in.

So I dragged my friend Elsie with me to a Chanel counter, and picked out a lipgloss! I was looking for something girly and pink, but slightly peachy. A "my lips, but better" shade. And the Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in the shade Rose Dilemma 144 was the one I chose!

First of all, LOVE THE PACKAGING. It's a classic clear tube, with a gold rim and the wand attached to the black applicator with the classic Chanel Cs on the top.

The doefoot applicator distributes a perfect amount of product each time, so you wont need to re-dip the applicator into the lip gloss for more. That way, there will be minimum bacteria and air in the lip gloss in the product overtime, making it more long lasting.

Rose Dilemma 144 is a pink shade, with a hint of peach. Also, it has gold reflexes in it, giving it that sheen without that glittery effect. Also, I should mention that it's not really that sticky. Everyone knows how awkward it is when the wind blows and your wispy flyaway hair gets stuck to your lips. But it's actually just a little bit thicker than an average lip balm.
I've had this for a couple days now, and I can honestly say that it has really good lasting power. On me, it lasts around 4 hours with eating and drinking like normal. I must say that this is quite pricey though, at USD$29.50, but it's definitely worth it for the quality and colour pay-off.

I'll definitely be wearing this for all my upcoming university orientation days and camps. I feel so luxurious with this on whilst rocking the big, sexy Victoria Secret hair.

Next time I post, I'll be at uni freshmen camp! I'm there from Sunday 18th until Tuesday 20th, but I'll have my trusty fellow Tweedler, Sally to post for me :)
Add me on twitter @MissJulianaYu to keep up with everything happening! And tweet me, I love getting tweets from you guys! No really, please, cos I'll have my phone with me at the camp and I'd be so bored in the wilderness so send me anything from a hello to a random joke!

Shopping Spree and Photoboothing!

Hey there, Sally here!

Today I met up with one of my friends from Sydney who came down to see some of the art exhibitions happening here. I did a bit of shopping while she was here. I also had a gift card given to me on my birthday from my friends which I had yet to spend and it was going to expire soon so I thought I better use it soon. (Note none of these clothing images are mine.)

Firstly, I got this top from Forever New. I got it because it reminded me of this Monets Garden exhibition that's going on at the moment and I thought it would be cute to wear in the summer.

Secondly, I got this jacket from Lorna Jane. For those of you that don't know, it's like a sport shop but it has some nice stuff. I love how bright it is and it's a cool design. Pink is my favourite colour so when I saw it I knew it was a must have. This is what the front of the jacket looks like.

And this is the back! Nice huh?

Lastly, I got these tights from Lorna Jane. I needed new ones because my old tights were becoming very thin. Their so comfy to wear! They've got some pretty nice stuff but it's a little pricey so I guess I'll have to keep saving up!

Me (Right) and (Isabella)
I took some pictures with my friend Isabella! We took like 50 photos until we finally found one that we both agreed on. Haha!
And in this photo, we went to a photo booth which was only $4 which is pretty good and took some black and white photos! It was funny because we didn't now where to look in the booth and turns out we were looking too high up.

Well that's all for now! Until next time,

Sally xx

Summer Fashion Faves!

Hi all,

I thought I'd share my current fashion obsession. I'm loving mint blue and gold for summer! I like how the top is flowy and sheer, so it won't stick in the summer heat. The gold/ bronze sequin shorts really enhances a tan and can dress up any top. Paired with gladiator sandals and a cross body bag, it's daytime appropriate, but with heels and a nice bag, it's a partying/nightlife outfit.

Mint blue top from Forever 21, Gold sequin shorts from Stradivarius

Plus, it's perfect proportions for short girls like me, I'm 5"0 tall! Haha fingers crossed for a crazy overnight growth spurt?
If you guys follow me on Twitter @MissJulianaYu, then you'll know that my friend recently got me a Harry Potter cardigan!! I'm a massive Harry Potter fan, and was sorted into Ravenclaw ("Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, If you've a steady mind, Where those of wit and learning, will always find their kind.") which is absolutely perfect because I love learning, even Sally calls me a nerd. Shh.. absolute secret but I have the number Pi memorised to 40 decimal places... and I don't even like math.

They actually only had size Men's Large, but it's fine, I like my cardigans oversized anyways! I think it would be totally cute to wear with jeans and heels, or even a sundress to balance out the proportions. Again, spoken like a true petite girl. Or, what I've been doing is sitting at home in my Ravenclaw cardigan and glasses and reading or watching Harry Potter for the millionth time. What a social butterfly.

Watching Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone in bed.
All my friends are leaving for universities around the world, so I'd just like to give all you readers out there a shoutout for if you're starting school, whether it's middle school, high school, or college, good luck and study hard! And of course.. Stay in school!

The Host and an Apple Crumble Recipe!

Hey there, Sally here!

I'm not to sure if many of you have read The Host by Stephanie Meyer? I wasn't a big fan of her Twilight series but I must say that this book is worth reading. I've read 75% of it according to my Kindle and it's so good I can't stop reading. Basically it's about this alien race that go to different planets and they have to live off a body like a parasite. The soul (what the aliens are called) take over your brain and basically you lose your identity. That's all I'm going to say because I'm scared I'm going to give too much away. Anyway, there's a movie as well for those of you who don't like reading and it's a great movie! I might do a little reading section in my blogs whenever I finish a book if you're interested?

I also thought I'd give you my favourite Apple Crumble Recipe! I love making it so much and it's pretty simple to make and perfect for the winter! The cooking time is 45 minutes!

I hope you enjoyed my recipe. It's delicious! Today I went and bought the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer because my Covergirl one has almost run out. Hopefully it's as good as the reviews say but I'll let you guys know next week!

I have an English exam on Monday which sucks but when that's done I'll be super happy! Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Until next time!
