Juliana's Updates

Hey all!
Omg I'm so sorry that we're never posting... I'm battling my way through final exams before the end of my semester. Okay well I'm not gonna lie there's always been some partying there as well but I promise I've been good ;)

I thought I might update you guys! So much has happened, not just school-wise, but also friendship drama and gossip!

My 18th Birthday:

So I turned 18 three weeks ago! I'm so excited, I'm finally legal. And no, it's not like I crazily abused my coming of age and went partying... I'm excited cos I can get a credit card and do some serious online shopping. #firstworldproblems.
Since my birthday is so close to halloween, my friends and I decided to just celebrate it on the night of halloween instead. We were too busy with college work and couldn't afford to go out twice in a week. I didn't exactly dress up; I had class earlier in the day, but I just wore my friend's sombrero (at the back!) cos I'm kinda really small and I would get lost in the crowd. Wow this post is turning out to be kinda sad.

Old Uni, New Uni?

Some of you may know that I quit the first uni that I was accepted into, because I was accepted into another uni for Year 2 to major in Psychology. That meant skipping freshman year of college entirely. But, I've made some amazing friends from the first uni, from my classes and from living in the uni halls, so I go back every now and then.
Here I am at a hall "GPA Dinner"- it's a hall tradition where there's a dinner to wish everyone good luck for their final exams.
P.S those are our matching-hoodies! Our floor (10th floor) is called "Goddesses" so we all got hoodies with our logo/ name on it!

Meeting up with friends:

I finally got to meet up with my high school friend! We've both been really busy, and we could finally sync our schedules to actually meet up! We went for a really nice dinner (Pepper Lunch!) and did some shopping at forever 21.
How Christmassy are the shop decorations! This is a little skincare shop in Causeway Bay.

Okay so I'm gonna go hit the books, 4 quizzes coming up :(
I hope you all are doing great, and take care of yourselves with the cold weather coming up. Students out there- keep working hard for the end of term/ semester, Christmas holidays are coming up soon!

Too Faced Natural Eye Palette

So um, again, I'm really really sorry for the delayed posts- both Sally and I are knee deep in work and school things, plus personal life issues :/

But on a brighter note, I have a new review for you guys! (Drum roll please....) The Too Faced Natural Eye Palette! At university, everyone here has really natural makeup, if any, and as a makeup crazed person, of course I'd be pulling off all sorts makeup that I can get away with whilst looking as natural as possible.
With some light nudes, taupes, and light pinks with a sheen, you can do a super natural eye makeup, but with the dark browns and shimmery bronze/golds, you can easily amp this up into a night out look.

As you all know, I'm off at college, and this palette has just been my life saver. It's one of the only eyeshadows that I bought with me, and it has everything I can possibly need. It comes with 9 natural shades of eyeshadow, but it includes some shimmery and even a BAM sparkly one. Like what. That's just me in a palette.

Left to Right: Heaven,  Velvet Revolver, Sexpresso, Silk Teddy, Push- Up, Erotica, Nude Beach, Honey Pot, Cocoa Puff

As you can see from the photo above, there are three rows: "Day", "Night" and "Fashion", and this palette has a secret compartment which holds three cards that teaches you the three looks, if you're a beginner and don't know where to start. The cards slips in in the flappy part of the palette, so you can even carry those cheat sheets with you!

I've been absolutely loving this palette, as there are a ton of college events and nights out, so I'd be amping up my eye makeup, but also eyeshadows appropriate for class.
Leave me a message as to what you think about it, or tweet me at @MissJulianaYu!

Top 3 College Must-Haves!

Hi all,
If you might not know, I'm a freshman in college! I start University here in Hong Kong, on the first Monday of September, and I'm so excited. I'm a Faculty Of Arts student, and will be taking Spanish, Translation, Mandarin, English, Sport and Religion.
As I'm typing this, I'm sitting amongst my mess of a room. I'm officially packing up my things and moving into the resident halls first thing tomorrow! I realised that there's a lot of things a newbie would forget to bring, or not realise that it's a necessity! Thankfully, I met a group of amazing Year 2 friends at the orientation camp I went to last week (when I had Sally post for me!) and we've become great friends. They gave me some tips and tricks so I thought I'd share it with you all here!

1. A Day Planner

Paperblanks Day Planner, in the Filigree Floral Ebony design

A day planner is incredibly important, I organise my school work, social life, crucial university dates and deadlines as well as social media plans (e.g Youtube video ideas, Hello Style Cosmo shows) on this! Also, it's great because you can have a spread of a week over two pages, and you can plan your week accordingly! It also has a phone book, an empty schedule table, pages of blank notes, monthly calenders and  two ribbons to mark your day!
This is the day planner that I have, but unfortunately it's not my own photo! It's incredibly cute, but it also comes in a range of different designs and sizes to suit your daily life. You can pick another design that you think best defines your personality, and adds an oomph to your boring everyday schoolbooks!

2. A Shower Caddy

Vera Bradley Shower Caddy

Whether you're sharing a bathroom between two rooms (4 girls) like I am, or trooping to shower stalls shared by your entire floor of girls, everyone definitely needs to bring their own products into the shower! If you haven't realised, I'm a massive product junkie, so it would just be stupid to walk in with my arms full of products. One great thing about shower caddies is that it adds a pop of colour to your drab dorm room, and it's also waterproof on the inside, in case any of your products spill over.

3. Decorations

Many dorm rooms will not allow nails hammered in for photo frames, artworks or whatever medal you want hung up. But, with stark white walls and a plain mattress on a plain wooden bed, it's hard to not cry when you see that plain room. So, to spice it up, develop some photos to stick everywhere! They'll remind you of all your friends from back home or in high school, and also there's a lot of pretty photos on Tumblr or on Pinterest! It's like your original wallpaper!
Also, fairy lights can brighten any boring room, and make it super cute and cozy. I'm actually a little bit afraid of the dark, so fairy lights are perfect because the soft lights won't keep your roomie up at night, but bright enough for you to fall asleep to.

All this dorm room talk has me excited to get back to packing! I'm super excited to meet my room mate tomorrow, and to decorate my 1-year "house" with her!

Summer Fashion Faves!

Hi all,

I thought I'd share my current fashion obsession. I'm loving mint blue and gold for summer! I like how the top is flowy and sheer, so it won't stick in the summer heat. The gold/ bronze sequin shorts really enhances a tan and can dress up any top. Paired with gladiator sandals and a cross body bag, it's daytime appropriate, but with heels and a nice bag, it's a partying/nightlife outfit.

Mint blue top from Forever 21, Gold sequin shorts from Stradivarius

Plus, it's perfect proportions for short girls like me, I'm 5"0 tall! Haha fingers crossed for a crazy overnight growth spurt?
If you guys follow me on Twitter @MissJulianaYu, then you'll know that my friend recently got me a Harry Potter cardigan!! I'm a massive Harry Potter fan, and was sorted into Ravenclaw ("Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, If you've a steady mind, Where those of wit and learning, will always find their kind.") which is absolutely perfect because I love learning, even Sally calls me a nerd. Shh.. absolute secret but I have the number Pi memorised to 40 decimal places... and I don't even like math.

They actually only had size Men's Large, but it's fine, I like my cardigans oversized anyways! I think it would be totally cute to wear with jeans and heels, or even a sundress to balance out the proportions. Again, spoken like a true petite girl. Or, what I've been doing is sitting at home in my Ravenclaw cardigan and glasses and reading or watching Harry Potter for the millionth time. What a social butterfly.

Watching Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone in bed.
All my friends are leaving for universities around the world, so I'd just like to give all you readers out there a shoutout for if you're starting school, whether it's middle school, high school, or college, good luck and study hard! And of course.. Stay in school!

The Host and an Apple Crumble Recipe!

Hey there, Sally here!

I'm not to sure if many of you have read The Host by Stephanie Meyer? I wasn't a big fan of her Twilight series but I must say that this book is worth reading. I've read 75% of it according to my Kindle and it's so good I can't stop reading. Basically it's about this alien race that go to different planets and they have to live off a body like a parasite. The soul (what the aliens are called) take over your brain and basically you lose your identity. That's all I'm going to say because I'm scared I'm going to give too much away. Anyway, there's a movie as well for those of you who don't like reading and it's a great movie! I might do a little reading section in my blogs whenever I finish a book if you're interested?

I also thought I'd give you my favourite Apple Crumble Recipe! I love making it so much and it's pretty simple to make and perfect for the winter! The cooking time is 45 minutes!

The recipe I'm about to share with you is for 4 servings.

Ingredients:
>4 Apples
>4 tablespoons lemon juice
>2 tablespoons cinnamon powder
>butter (greasing dish)

For the Crumble Dough
>120g unsalted butter
>80g brown sugar
>160g plain flour

Whipped Cream
>80ml double cream
>20g icing sugar

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 180C
2. Cut the butter into small pieces and chill them in the refrigerator
3. Peel the apples
4. Cut each apple into wedges of eight and remove the core
5. Put the wedges in a bowl and coat them with the 4 tablespoons of lemon juice
6. Add the cinnamon powder and mix it all together
7. Coat an ovenproof dish with butter
8. Layer the wedges in the dish
9. In a separate bowl, mix the butter, flour and sugar together with your hands until crumbly
10. Cover the wedges with the crumble dough
11. Put the dish in the oven and bake for 35 minutes
12. In another bowl, whip the cream and icing sugar together
13. Take the apple crumble out of the oven and serve on a dish
14. Pour on the whipped cream
15. Done, enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed my recipe. It's delicious! Today I went and bought the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer because my Covergirl one has almost run out. Hopefully it's as good as the reviews say but I'll let you guys know next week!

I have an English exam on Monday which sucks but when that's done I'll be super happy! Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Until next time!
